I have used version 1.0 of fvwm since it came out. I dont find anything
fundamentally wrong with it, and it does almost everything that I think
a window manager should do - so dont try to argue me into upgrading. I
have, however, added some minor changes to its workings over time.
- When a transient window pops up, its probably wanting immediate input,
and secondly, you probably want to go back to what you were previously doing
after it is gone. I warp the cursor to the bottom righthand corner of the
transient window, and then send it back to where it was when that window
closes - not perfect but good enough. Maybe I will put the cursor in the
middle of windows larger than X*X....
- There was a contrib patch in the v1.0 tree for windows-like
specification of hot-keys in menus (using "&" characters) I liked this, so I
have put it in.
- The outline drag box was _way_ too invisible with a 16bpp depth, so I
upped it a little
- I also didnt like centered menus or window titles - but horror! that
patch seems to have disappeared!!! - I'll have to be careful to put that
re-code those changes if I ever recompile the binary. Oops, I forgot.
But I have now recoded the left justified window titles. I'm not sure if
the left justified menus are that nice after all. Maybe a complete change
in the way the menus are done would make them nice ...
